What Are Jōyō Kanji?
Jōyō Kanji, or 常用漢字, are the 2,136 Chinese characters that the Japanese government has designated for “standard use” within Japan. All Japanese students are expected to know these symbols by the time they graduate secondary school.

My goal is to learn all 2,136 basic kanji by the end of 2020. Although this may be a daunting task, with the support of my friends, family, and you, I know I can overcome this challenge. Over the next 52 weeks I’ll be documenting my progress to help teach and inspire others who want to achieve their goals.
